DESIGNERS WITH CHARACTER
Typography is increasingly evolving in all artistic fields thanks to the work of graphic designers. In the nineteenth century, the work of typographers was reserved for purely editorial projects. However, during the first decades of the twentieth century, typography has expanded its horizons through technological developments and the work of precursors such as Paul Renner and Adrian Frutiger or later, Herb Lubalin, Neville Brody and David Carson.
The convergence between art, graphic design and typography throughout the twentieth century has lead to a generation of designers who take up for and defend this necessary conversation between typography and graphic design, which is particularly alive today in the Spanish graphic scene.
This exhibition aims to show works of the most relevant contemporary Spanish graphic designers that give special emphasis to typography. Participating artists: Andreu Balius, Alex Trochut, Design by Atlas, Marta Cerdà Alimbau, Mucho, Serial Cut™ and Vasava.
The exhibition will open on October 1st, 2015 at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas.
SHOW US YOUR TYPE
are collaborating with Brief Festival this year to organize an open call typography project. They have already visited over 18 cities, asking all creative people to imagine a poster with the word “Madrid” in it. The cover for this open call has been designed by the Madrid based studio Serial Cut™, inspired by the famous “heavy metal” couple, the Alcázar brothers.
